Animals

Animals surprise, delight, frighten, and intrigue me. Our ranch is primarily a cattle seedstock operation, yet we also have horses and cats, among the many native species. My husband and his crew tend to the cattle. I mostly pet our horses and ride on the rare occasion I’m feeling brave. My children adore the cats, and I tolerate them because they’re excellect mousers. We enjoy a growing population of prairie chickens, grouse, pheasants, hawks and bald eagles, migratory ducks, and countless song birds. Our favorite is the meadowlark, whose beautiful call accompanies my meditations along the gravel road.
