Exploring Spiritual Direction

Are you curious about spiritual direction and a contemplative way of living? Welcome! You may be experiencing change or transition and looking for a safe space to more deeply explore spiritual questions. Welcome! Perhaps you are on a vocational path toward ministry and discerning God’s call. Welcome! As we say in the United Church of Christ, “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!”

Welcome

Prairie Pasque

My family and I live on a ranch near Highmore, South Dakota. Our rural landscape grounds me both physically and spiritually. I chose the name Prairie Pasque Spiritual Direction in honor of the pasque flower that colors our South Dakota spring pastures after a long winter. It’s pale purple petals are the first to resurrect from the seeming desolation of frozen earth. The pasque’s simple glory amidst dormant prairie grass draws my awareness to the subtlety of God’s presence and existing signs of hope and beauty in ordinary life. Each season of life holds promise for new growth. In the breathtaking and barren moments alike, the Holy Spirit is at work.

What Happens in Spiritual Direction?

In spiritual direction, we pay attention to what matters most. We make space and time to listen to the Holy Spirit within us and among us. We trust that in stillness and stories alike, God’s still-speaking voice is revealed to us, as we grow in contemplative awareness and grounding.

In my practice of spiritual direction (both as a director and directee) I experience a growing capacity to perceive everyday moments that hold the promise of God’s guiding voice. In relationship with another listening soul, we deepen our spiritual attention to God’s presence in and through it all. It is my true privilege to walk alongside others who seek an attentive way of being in relationship with God. I truly believe in the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives, and I appreciate your shared interest in spiritual direction. Please reach out if you’d like to hear a bit more of my story and learn about how individual spiritual direction works. Let’s Connect!

Rev. Emily Munger is one of the most spiritually connected and discerning people I know. The Phoenix Center for Spiritual Direction was fortunate to have the opportunity to mentor and train her. I highly recommend her as a spiritual director who is brimming with compassion, able to listen deeply, and adept at drawing her client’s attention to the dynamic action of the Spirit in their life.
