As a cattle rancher, my husband is heavily invested in grassland management, work that is essential to the prairie ecosystem. I have been gradually learning more about the symbiotic relationship between cattle and prairie, and I’m fascinated by the intricate balance of it all. Much of the work of regeneration happens below the surface, with time and endurance and the right focus. Each year we see new species arrive in our pastures, and it’s so fun to capture their beautiful shapes and colors in these photographs. I’ve come to understand ranching as a spiritual lifestyle, with hope of renewal in every season.
