Exploring Spiritual Direction

Welcome

Perhaps you are simply curious about the art of spiritual direction and contemplative way of life. Welcome! You may be experiencing changes in life and looking for a safe space to more deeply explore spiritual questions. Welcome! You could be on a vocational path toward ministry and discerning God’s calling on your life. Welcome! As we say in the United Church of Christ, “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!”

In spiritual direction, we pay attention to what matters most. We make space and time to listen to the Holy Spirit within us and among us. We trust that in stillness and stories alike, God’s still-speaking voice is revealed to us, as we grow in contemplative awareness and grounding.

As a spiritual director, I hold our time together in a sacred, confidential way. Each session begins with a time of centering, after which we will practice a contemplative-evocative approach to spiritual direction. In essence, we are listening to what surfaces in your everyday life and offering the spiritual attention that leads to deeper understanding and growth. You may check out my contemplative life blog that offers a bit of who I am as a spiritual director. I consider it a unique privilege to walk alongside your spiritual journey and am happy to respond to your questions.

I live on my husband’s family ranch near Highmore, South Dakota with my two school-aged children. Our rural landscape grounds me both spiritually and physically; therefore I meet virtually with individual spiritual directees. I occasionally travel to lead group contemplative practices for churches, ministry groups, and wider church gatherings. If you are interested in learning more about individual spiritual direction or group sessions, please contact me directly. Thank you!

Rev. Emily Munger is one of the most spiritually connected and discerning people I know. The Phoenix Center for Spiritual Direction was fortunate to have the opportunity to mentor and train her. I highly recommend her as a spiritual director who is brimming with compassion, able to listen deeply, and adept at drawing her client's attention to the dynamic action of the Spirit in their life.
